The University of London becomes the 100th YouTube EDU Member

The University of London International Programmes has signed up to the YouTube EDU channel. It became YouTube EDU’s eighth university partner in the UK and the 100th worldwide member.

Taking a look at the university’s history, YouTube seems to be a perfect match. The University of London was established in 1836 with a very progressive founding principle: to provide education for all, irrespective of race, creed or political belief. Through its International Programmes the university is also the world’s oldest provider of degrees through distance and flexible learning.

Its degree programmes have been accessible to students all over the world since 1858. Today the university is offering 100+ distance and flexible learning programmes to 52,000 students in 190 countries.

Professor Jonathan Kydd, Dean of the University of London International Programmes says

“This partnership places us on the YouTube EDU channel alongside the Universities of Stanford, Harvard, Oxford and Cambridge. The International Programmes has been operating for more than 153 years through collaboration with the constituent Colleges of the University of London, which is internationally acclaimed for its academic rigour and cutting-edge research.”

Besides strengthening its mission of providing education for all through this new mean of distribution, the University of London also sees the partnership as a way to promote its programmes.

“We feel confident that the new channel will continue to attract a diverse audience of prospective and current students.”

First positive results are in: since joining the channel in June this year, the university saw and increase in viewing figures to 30,000 a month, already.
