Languages.com is up for Sale – Language Learning or Translation Company?

languages.com

A premium domain that should be very interesting to companies in the language learning space is up for sale. DomainAdvisors.com is the exclusive vendor of languages.com a site that has been registered for the first time in August 1995 which means that the domain has some great domain age.

Taking a look back with the Way Back Machine it is interesting to see that not that much happened on the site in the past sixteen years. It started as an online directory for translators and then became one of those infamous place holder sites filled with sponsored links and ads to convert incoming traffic in 2001.

And that’s exactly the argument of DomainAdvisor.com why one of the companies in language education should cough up some money for Languages.com

“As the upward trend in language learning accelerates and competition increases between language learning players like Rosetta Stone, Berlitz and LingQ, it’s the perfect time to capitalize on the opportunity to own such a memorable, category defining name like Languages.com,” says Tessa Holcomb, CEO of DomainAdvisors.

They also point out that the same approach works pretty well for companies in other markets like Barnes&Noble which owns books.com or Toys R Us which own toys.com.

Furthermore, the word “languages” gets 7.5 million searches per month of Google. Owning the .com domain and a service or product that is related to the name should get the owner of languages.com a very good ranking in the organic search results. Top 5 for sure, maybe even the first spot.

Of course the domain is also very interesting for the translation space. As languages.com started as directory for translators, there may even be some backlinks on the site already.

Will be interesting to see if one of the companies we cover here at EDUKWEST will sign a check for languages.com, we will keep an eye on the domain for sure.
