In this episode of KICKSTART:ED I talked to Satya Murthy and Carmen Talbot, the creators of BrainBart. BrainBart wants to become the Netflix of learning though in the interview Satya pointed out that the business model is more comparable to Mint.com but more on that later.

BrainBart is an idea that Satya got already 10 years ago when he taught art students with his Acer tablet PC. Back then the technology was still pretty clunky and not comparable to modern tablets like the iPad yet the general idea of drawing something on the screen with the students seeing it in real time and the interaction based on this experience was what sparked the idea.

Now that technology including modern tablet devices is part of the daily life of many people, the idea became an application that wants to connect students, teachers and for profit education institutions via a wide variety of devices. From tablets to smart phones to gaming consoles.

Students will have access to free education videos and teachers will get paid to do them through BrainBart’s partnerships with companies in education. Like Mint, BrainBart will collect data of its users and make it available to those institutions that can then deliver highly targeted offers to students and teachers alike.

BrainBart delivers some interesting new angles to the online learning space and I will definitely follow the progress of Satya and Carmen here on KICKSTART:ED. If you want to support them, the relevant links are below the video.
