edX announced today that Wendy Cebula, formerly COO at Vistaprint, will join the MOOC provider as president and COO.
Founder and current president Anant Agarwal will become CEO of edX.
Cebula will assume the day-to-day operation of edX while Agarwal will focus on the strategic direction, growth and partnerships.
During her thirteen years at Vistaprint where she most recently served as the company’s COO, Cebula helped to grow the business from $1 million to $1 billion globally and is therefore the right person to help edX build out and scale operations as well as to accelerate edX’s next phase of growth according to Agarwal. As Phil Hill pointed out on Twitter, she also currently serves as business advisor to Boston-based online jewelry shop Gemvara.

According to Boston Business Journal another important role for Cebula will be to help edX become more revenue self-sustaining. In an interview with the publication Agarwal stated that
“Wendy will help us continue with our mission. She is extremely passionate about education and she will definitely bring us added strength in the area of business.”
The appointment of Wendy Cebula as edX’ new president and COO comes on the same day competitor Coursera’s announcement that former Yale president Richard C. Levin will join the MOOC provider in mid-April as CEO.
