HEDLINE: Press4Kids raises $1 million Seed Round

Press4Kids received $1 million in Seed Funding from private investors and entrepreneurs. The funding round was split into two tiers.

Press4Kids is the publisher of News-O-Matic, a daily news application for kids that aims to foster global citizenship by providing students with local, national and international news.

Key Takeaway

Founded in 2012 News-O-Matic aims to provide children between 7 and 11 years of age with world news and to inspire them to read on a daily basis by means of an engaging interactive learning experience that includes gamification elements.

The editorial team publishes five articles a day which are enhanced with images, maps, videos and games. To put news in perspective, News-O-Matic uses the GPS inside smartphones to show the distance between the reader and the location where the story is happening. Each news item is reviewed by a child psychologist to make to ensure emotional safety.

According to the press release News-O-Matic is used by hundreds of teachers and thousands of kids at school and at home. The dedicated classroom edition provides teachers with news articles that comply with Standards of the Common Core and differentiates the reading levels of the individual news pieces as well as reading level per article, CCSS correlations and assessment questions.

The funding will be used to expand the distribution of News-O-Matic into elementary and middle school classrooms across the US.
