In my attempt to explore the online education scene as a whole, I recently took the opportunity for an EDUKWEST with Hank Horkoff, CEO of Chinese Pod, the biggest and most successful podcast product our industry. I’m particularly happy to present yet again a company that established itself on the sometimes so exotic however exciting sounding Chinese market.
This aspect is one of the basic ideas for this interview, illustrating how a startup succeeded in defining its niche and customers in this vast, sometimes wildly growing and dreadfully exciting English language market in China.
In our interview, Hank describes how Chinese Pod has evolved from the humble beginnings in late 2005, more or less just putting some podcasts out there and see how the market would react, into what the company represents today.
I had of course to ask Hank how it is running a startup company in China with all the opportunities and sometimes constraints.
The last part of our talk is on the one hand dedicated to to the future of the company (mobile!) as well as us having a look in the educational scene and what needs to be changed here (openness!).
I’m happy that I had the possibility of talking to Hank as he is on the one hand a talented business person but on the other hand has an idea on how to make education change and that matches EDUKWEST’s mantra perfectly: on the search for better education!
