
If you are a developer who would like to code an application that helps researchers and win some great prizes you have four days left to apply for the Mendeley API Binary Battle.
PLoS (Public Library of Science) and Mendeley teamed up to have developers work on application that make science more open. The apps are evaluated by an all star jury including Tim O’Reilly and Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon.
The decision on who wins the battle will be on the one hand be based on facts, e.g. how many downloads the app will get, how actively people are using it and on the other hand on more subjective factors like wow effect.
Apps that were built before the battle can also apply. Just get your API code on the Mendeley Developer portal or at PLoS. Winners will be announced in November. For the prices:
$10,001 + $1,000 Amazon Web Services Credits will be rewarded to 1 winner using at least the Mendeley API. The runner up will receive $5,000 + $500 Amazon Web Services Credits using either the Mendeley API or PLoS API. An extra prize of $1,000 + a Quadricopter is available for best mashup using both Mendeley and PLoS APIs.
