The team at MindSnacks had some great news to share with the education and tech community just some days ago as they have raised a funding of $1.2 million.
I have been knowing the MindSnacks team from almost the beginning when they had just came out of their original Philadelphia incubator at the end of last summer and were about to launch the first MindSnacks app for Apple devices which was their app to learn Spanish.
After moving to San Francisco and hearing about the funding it was exciting to get them for an EDUKWEST follow up both from the edu journalist’s point of view but also because I personally like them and what they’re building. To be frank, when I first heard about the project it was somewhat of a no brainer for me that this concept is going to to work with the right team of founders and some decent execution.
Jeff Evans, co founder of MindSnacks, once again shares some really valuable information with you, especially when you’re in a similar situation and you’re looking for funding, in the first part of this EDUKWEST Jeff talks about his experience as part of the Dave McClure 500Startups family and also how a prominent angle investor as McClure is can help the founders putting the investors for their funding round together. Jeff also gives us his take on AngelList, a recently much talked about option to raise funding.
Next coming to the part in what areas the funding will be invested in. Here again, Jeff had a superb announcement to make. Their latest application for learning French has just topped the education section in the apple AppStore and this has just been the beginning! The funding definitely allows the founders to roll out the next apps quite quickly and to also start scaling.
In the coming weeks we will see the next Romance language applications to be launched and due to the structure of these languages and therefore the apps themselves that just a logic next step. But as the MindSnacks team is definitely high-flying (in the best of senses), we should expect them spreading into very differently topics or subjects as well.
On an engineering and design level, we will also see much smoother and more polished versions of MindSnacks soon as part of the funding is being invested in new talent.
All in all, great news from one of my favourite education start-ups! It’s always such a pleasure talking with the guys and following their next steps. I couldn’t be happier for them and the success is well deserved.
