Mobile learning is a growing sector in education across the globe, but it will have the largest impact in developing countries where mobile Internet outgrows, and often replaces, broadband connections at an increased speed.

According to data gathered by EDUKWEST, there have been at least 15 mobile first edtech startups founded in India in the past five years. An additional 30 have added mobile apps to their offering.
The majority of edtech startups are in the K-12, Higher Education and Test Prep verticals, followed by Lifelong Learning and ESL.

Due to the relatively small number of mobile edtech startups, there is not much overlap between the offerings at the moment. Nevertheless, Assessment and Communication show early traction in K-12 and Higher Education while Marketplaces are dominant in the Lifelong Learning and Tutoring verticals.
