Four years after the first CommonCraft video was uploaded, trainers and educators in over 40 countries have licensed them. Through the years Lee and Sachi LeFever have received many request if either they or the licensees could translate the videos into their native languages.
Answering that call, CommonCraft videos and the website are now available in eight languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Japanese.
As Lee points out in his post, for a small company going global is not an easy task. First of all, they had to evaluate which of the videos in the library are working for a global audience. The list came up to 30 videos.
In a next step, the transcripts and pages for the videos needed to get professionally translated as well as the homepage in order to explain to new visitors what CommonCraft is all about.
In the first 30 days the new version of CommonCraft has been available, people from 7 countries signed up for the membership. The next step is now to spread the word and expand into new verticals like the ESL space or multi-national companies which are now being enabled to use the CommonCraft videos to train their entire workforce in their native language.
