According to the busuu blog, the language learning community now has more than 3 million users. In the recent months busuu has seen a rapid growth, adding around 10.000 new users per day, 1 million in the past four months.
busuu also shares some other interesting numbers in the post. In the past three years community members have
- written or recorded more than 8 million exercises
- made more than 18 million corrections
- completed more than 50 million learning unit parts
What I find interesting about those numbers shared is the relatively low number of written and recorded exercises compared to the total number of users. That is about 2,5 exercises per user. With 18 million corrections, every exercise receives about two corrections which again is not that much. On the other hand, every user finishes about 16 learning units.
Looking at those numbers, it seems that there is a smaller part of the community that uses all options available to learn and collaborate, and a bigger part that only uses the automated exercises. It could also be a result of the success with the mobile apps and more users learn with busuu on their iPhones / iPods and simply refresh their vocabulary.
It will be interesting how those numbers change once busuu established its sales team in North America.
